NBA Trade Rumors: The San Antonio Spurs have previously inquired about trades for Darius Garland and LaMelo Ball.
The San Antonio Spurs have registered interest in both Darius Garland and LaMelo Ball during previous transaction cycles, sources tell Jake Fischer. San Antonio is now linked to De'Aaron Fox, who has identified them as his preferred destination.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the San Antonio Spurs tried to trade for Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland and Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball.
The Cavaliers were not interested in trading Garland in the summer.
Meanwhile, the Hornets have never thought about moving Ball.
Fischer stated, "Sources claimed that the Spurs did call Cleveland on Garland last June, when San Antonio still had the Nos. 4 and 8 picks in the 2024 NBA Draft available for trade." "Those discussions did not pique the Cavaliers' interest. LaMelo Ball of Charlotte is another name that has consistently surfaced as a possible franchise point guard of Spurs interest. Trade requests for their quirky ball handler have never been accepted by the Hornets. However, according to insiders, the Spurs have made an effort to express interest in Ball in past deal cycles.
In order to replace Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs are attempting to acquire a top floor general. They have already discussed a De'Aaron Fox trade with the Sacramento Kings.
Fox would want to be dealt to the Spurs, but he hasn't asked the Kings for a trade.
Fischer added, "As has been widely reported, Fox's preferred destination is San Antonio." However, according to sources who spoke to The Stein Line, Fox's team does not currently have any intentions to make public the information that is already causing a stir in the league.
February 6 is the NBA trading deadline. Everyone is anticipating Fox and Jimmy Butler's next move. Butler wants to be transferred to the Phoenix Suns after requesting a trade from the Miami Heat.
"After three years? According to league insiders, the Kings were the ones who initially contacted De'Aaron Fox's Klutch Sports agency about placing the All-Star guard on the trade market immediately," Fischer said. As early as last week, Sacramento informed a few interested teams that it was amenable to such approaches. In Sactown, that is the flipped switch.
