NBA Rumors: Kendrick Perkins on the true motivation behind the Minnesota Timberwolves' attempt to acquire Kevin Durant through trade
Prior to the trade deadline, the Minnesota Timberwolves inquired about the great player Kevin Durant.
It was revealed that the Minnesota Timberwolves made late inquiries about Kevin Durant after the most dramatic trade deadline in recent memory.
Despite his concerns that a deal between the two clubs could have been completed, NBA expert Brian Windhorst predicts Durant will depart the Phoenix Suns this summer due to dissatisfaction.
On February 20, Durant played for the Suns as they suffered their fourth consecutive loss at the Spurs.
Karl-Anthony Towns, one of the league's top players, was traded by the Minnesota Timberwolves to the New York Knicks at the beginning of the NBA season, changing the club.
Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo, who is presently injured, were given to them. The main issue with Randle is that he might become a free agent this summer.
Kendrick Perkins was shocked to hear the news of Randle's contract during an ESPN program.
He emphasized that he had previously stated that the Timberwolves deal was about to become one of the worst in NBA history, and that this would be further highlighted if Randle were to leave the team immediately.
Perkins thinks this is the reason they looked into Durant, highlighting what the T-Wolves consider to be a home reality.
"They knew they made a mistake when they traded away Karl-Anthony Towns, so they knew they needed to trade for KD," he stated.
The Timberwolves rely on Anthony Edward.
Given the current situation, Kevin Durant is not pleased in Phoenix and is probably going to be traded before the offseason.
Numerous teams will be interested in hiring Durant, yet the Timberwolves are more financially constrained and have less assets than other teams.
Given their abundance of draft picks, Stephen A. Smith has proposed a reunion with the Oklahoma City Thunder in the event that they lose in the playoffs.
The only way Minnesota wins is if Durant is persuaded to join the squad by the opportunity to play with squad USA colleague Anthony Edwards.
To obtain assets for Durant, the Wolves would probably need to engage a third or fourth team or make a separate trade.
