NBA Trade Rumors: San Antonio Spurs might’ve jumped the gun on the De’Aaron Fox trade
With De'Aaron Fox publicly requesting a trade to San Antonio, the Spurs made the right decision in acquiring Fox before to the trade deadline, sparking what could be a deadly combination between experienced guard Fox and Victor Wembanyama.
Since coming to San Antonio from Sacramento, Fox has been a terrific addition and has played the role. However, they might have lost a better guard who would have complemented Wemby even more as a result of their desperation.
Playing with one of the NBA's poorest clubs and organizations has allowed LaMelo Ball to go unnoticed. Even though he hasn't received much attention, he has All-Star-caliber stats this season.
Ball is scoring a career-high 26.2 points per game on average this season. Despite missing a lot of time, which has been a recurring theme in his career, he has been a reliable guard. And since the team doesn't appear to be competitive, he could be able to force his way out of Charlotte.
It's possible that the San Antonio Spurs are regretting not pursuing LaMelo Ball.
It's possible that the Spurs acted too quickly by locking down their long-term guard. Ball lining up alongside Wemby would have terrified teams for years, even with Fox's recent success.
To be honest, I'm shocked that Ball didn't try to force his way out prior to the trade deadline because he is in NBA hell in Charlotte. Ball has so many seasons marred by injuries that it's challenging to get a read on him. He missed seven games during the 2021–22 season, which was also his healthiest.
He hasn't participated in over 40 games since. He might reach 60 even if he plays every game the rest of the season. The Spurs may not have been aggressive in their trade for Ball because his health is currently the main concern.
It wasn't a horrible idea to include Fox because he has a reasonably healthy career and has been playing well. Perhaps, though, they will come to regret not pursuing Ball if he doesn't sign with a team or contender that is interested in him moving forward and improving his game.
