Given Kyrie Irving's knee injury, Anthony Davis' Dallas Mavericks season may be finished.

NBA Trade Rumors: Given Kyrie Irving's knee injury, Anthony Davis' Dallas Mavericks season may be finished.

Only one game has seen Anthony Davis don a Dallas Mavericks uniform, and it might be his only appearance for the team this season.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Davis may decide to finish his season early in order to concentrate on remaining healthy after star point guard Kyrie Irving suffered a season-ending torn ACL.

"I believe that he and his delegates will meet.  On The Pat McAfee Show, Charania stated, "I believe they're going to have some really difficult conversations."  "It's not out of the realm of possibility that one game was the last time we've seen AD this season."

Davis' Mavericks stint got off to a strong start as he logged 26 points, 16 boards, seven assists and three blocks in his debut, but he suffered an adductor injury in that encounter on Feb. 8 and has been out since.

Davis indicated after the injury that he was "very confident" it wouldn't be a severe setback, per Charania, but he's already missed almost a month of activity and will be re-evaluated this week.

It might make sense for Davis to finish the season and start getting ready for next year, depending on the results of his review.

At 32-30, the Mavericks are presently ranked 10th in the Western Conference.  With only 20 games remaining in the regular season, Dallas' chances of missing the playoffs are growing.

The Mavs have a much lower probability of making the playoffs now that Irving will be out for the remainder of the season.  It would be extremely unlikely for Dallas to go far without Irving if they were to qualify for the postseason.

Given Davis's rather lengthy injury history, the Mavericks don't want to take the chance of their star being hurt again only to have a chance at making the playoffs.  It wouldn't be shocking to see the big man begin his offseason early if Dallas and Davis believe a championship run is unlikely.
