NBA Trade Rumors: The Minnesota Timberwolves attempted to land Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant
According to reports, the Minnesota Timberwolves are preparing to make another attempt this summer to acquire Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant before the NBA trade deadline on February 6.
"The Timberwolves tried to pull off a crazy trade at the deadline for KD; look for them to revisit those talks this summer," ESPN's Brian Windhorst said on Thursday's episode of Get Up.
A "very tight connection" was formed between Durant and Timberwolves star guard Anthony Edwards while they were playing together at the Olympics in Paris as members of Team USA, which won a gold medal, according to Windhorst. As his illustrious career comes to a conclusion, Durant may find it intriguing to team with Edwards, who is among the NBA's top young players.
Ironically, Durant criticized his club after the Timberwolves thrashed the Suns 116-98 on Sunday.
Durant remarked, "We didn't play up to our standards at all," following the defeat. "The way we performed embarrassed both the spectators and ourselves. I want us to improve.
The talented three of Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal gave the Suns hopes of winning a title at the start of the season. However, Phoenix has struggled all season with injuries and chemistry problems. With a 29-33 record, Phoenix is presently ranked 11th in the Western Conference.
Many people think Durant will be moving this summer as a result of the dismal campaign. In September, he will turn 37, therefore it is likely that he will be trying to find a partner.
To be a desirable destination for the two-time NBA champion, the Timberwolves will need to figure out how to sign Durant without completely overhauling their roster.
