NBA Trade Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers signed C Alex Len, Following the breakdown of the Mark Williams trade
Following the cancellation of their trade for Charlotte Hornets big man Mark Williams, the Los Angeles Lakers now have the depth in their frontcourt that they desired.
Los Angeles declared on Tuesday that it had waived Christian Wood and signed Alex Len.
Len had planned to sign with the Indiana Pacers, but he altered his mind when the Williams trade situation presented this possibility, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Wood is recuperating from surgery on his left knee, therefore he hasn't played in a game this season. Len will ideally provide much-needed frontcourt depth for the stretch run while posing fewer durability issues for Los Angeles.
Len, who joined the league as the fifth overall choice in the 2013 NBA draft, has had a career that has seen him bounce around from the Phoenix Suns, Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings, Toronto Raptors, and Washington Wizards.
He has made 36 appearances so far this season, averaging 7.2 minutes per game with 1.4 points and 1.8 rebounds. At least he gives the Lakers veteran depth and the option to spell Hayes when needed, but he won't be much more than a supporting player.
