NBA Trade Rumors: Miami Heat’s Tyler Herro to Miss 8 Weeks After Foot and Ankle Surgery
Miami Heat All-Star Tyler Herro will miss the start of the 2025-26 NBA season following surgery on his left foot and ankle. Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald reports that the procedure was scheduled for Friday, and Herro will not be cleared in time for Miami’s season opener against the Orlando Magic on Oct. 22.
Herro has been dealing with an impingement since mid-summer, and when platelet-rich plasma and cortisone injections failed to alleviate the issue, surgery became necessary to prevent future complications. Herro confirmed the procedure on his Instagram story, and ESPN’s Shams Charania reports the expected recovery timeline is eight weeks.
The 25-year-old guard, originally the No. 13 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Kentucky, has been one of the league’s most consistent scorers over the past four seasons. He first broke out in 2021-22, averaging 20.1 points per game and earning NBA Sixth Man of the Year honors. Last season, Herro posted career highs with 23.9 points, 5.5 assists, 3.3 three-pointers made per game, and 5.2 rebounds, while shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from three.

Herro’s emergence came as the Heat leaned on him heavily following Jimmy Butler’s suspension and subsequent trade to the Golden State Warriors, culminating in his first All-Star selection. Despite his standout performance, Miami finished 37-45 and was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers.
With Herro sidelined, the Heat will rely on veterans Norman Powell, Davion Mitchell, Andrew Wiggins, and three-time All-Star center Bam Adebayo to fill the scoring void. Guards Jaime Jaquez and Terry Rozier will also be counted on to help lead Miami during Herro’s eight-week recovery.
