Luka Dončić is reflecting on the whirlwind emotions following his blockbuster trade from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers. Speaking to Jason Gay of the Wall Street Journal, Dončić admitted he "didn't know how to react" when he first learned of the deal.
"I didn't know how to react, how to act, what to say," Dončić said. "It was a lot of shock. I felt Dallas was my home. I had many friends there. The fans always supported me. I didn't want to upset Dallas fans. And I didn't want to upset Laker fans."
Even seven months later, Dončić says the experience still feels unusual. "It will always be strange," he told Gay, adding, "I don't know if someday I will have closure or not."
Despite the emotional adjustment, Dončić has embraced his role as the Lakers’ centerpiece. He reaffirmed his commitment to Los Angeles by signing a three-year, $165 million extension in August, keeping him with the team through at least the 2027-28 season.
