NBA Trade Rumors: Kevin Love, Jazz Yet to Begin Serious Buyout Talks Amid Playoff Contender Interest
Kevin Love’s NBA future remains in limbo, as the Utah Jazz and the veteran forward have reportedly not engaged in serious contract buyout negotiations despite speculation to the contrary.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, while league insiders widely expect Love to seek a playoff-contending destination, the buyout process hasn’t reached an advanced stage. Stein noted that such talks typically only progress once a firm post-buyout landing spot is secured.
Love, along with Kyle Anderson and a second-round pick, was acquired by the Jazz in a three-team trade that sent John Collins to the Los Angeles Clippers and Norman Powell to the Miami Heat earlier this offseason.
Now entering the final year of his contract, the 37-year-old is owed $4.2 million for the 2025-26 season, per Spotrac. His playing days appear to be winding down, as he logged career-low averages of 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds across just 23 games last year.
Despite his diminished on-court role, Love’s résumé still carries weight. A five-time All-Star, NBA champion, and respected locker-room presence, he could prove invaluable as a veteran mentor for a contending team.
While no deal appears imminent, the expectation remains that Love will eventually part ways with the Jazz and pursue one final playoff run before calling it a career.
